The Ride Raises $101,943 in 2020

Campaign Contributions to be Invested in The Ride Technology Fund

Madison, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Madison announces The Ride, a benefit for cancer research and patient treatment has raised $101,943 during its 2020 campaign which saw safety event modifications aimed at keeping its participants healthy amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ride presented an individualized experience for participants on-course in Madison as well as an opportunity for riders to participate virtually. In total, the 2020 campaign involved 864 participants of which 12% participated virtually in the inaugural Global Program. The Ride funds were contributed by 1,288 donors who supported participants riding to accelerate cancer research and patient treatment at the UW Carbone Cancer Center.

The Ride has served as a mechanism of cancer innovation and powers the most promising discoveries by allocating 100% of participant-raised dollars towards the cancer mission. This process of community engagement and inspiration while eliminating event overhead cost is paramount to The Ride’s mission. The mechanism of The Ride has allowed all 2020 campaign contributions to be allocated in supporting the most promising and lifesaving technologies in cancer research and treatment.

The Ride has seen significant success since its inaugural year in 2016 which has helped to raise $1.3M in total for cancer research and patient treatment at the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. The event features disciplines and route distances for all ages and abilities. Participants can bike (100 Mile, 100K, 50K, 25K, 5K), run (13.1 Mile, 5K) or walk (5K) while raising awareness and funds. All disciplines and distances may either be accomplished in-person at The Ride or virtually as part of the Global Program.

The Ride continues next year on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at The American Family Insurance Headquarters campus at 6000 American Parkway in Madison. Registration opens January 1, 2021. For more information, visit badgerchallenge.org.
